Chamber Concert Series: Cello Recital

On Sunday, June 11th at 3 p.m., the Phelps Mansion Museum will present Cellist Hakan Tayga-Hromek and Pianist Pej Reitz during its Chamber Concert Series at 191 Court Street in Binghamton.

Hakan Tayga-Hromek attended Ithaca College, SUNY Purchase, and SUNY Binghamton for his musical education. His teachers have included Fritz Wallenberg, Inar Jeff Holm, Marion Feldman, Peter Wiley, and Stephen Stalker. Tayga-Hromek has attended the Round Top International Music Festival, Music Mountain Chamber Festival, Spoleto Music Festival, Skaneatles Music Festival, and the Congress of Strings.

An avid chamber music collaborator, he has performed with Pianist Margaret Reitz, the Novo4tet, DeVere String Quartet, Syracuse Symphony, Orchestra of Northern New York, and many other organizations and local artists in the Central New York region.

Currently, Tayga-Hromek is the principle cellist with the Binghamton Philharmonic and the Tri-Cities Opera Orchestra.

Pej Reitz, a Binghamton native, attended Boston University, New England Conservatory, and SUNY Binghamton to complete her music education. She acquired a Bachelor and Master of Music degree in piano performance with an accompanying emphasis. She studied piano with Jean Casadesus, Victor Rosenbaum, Seymour Fink, Walter Ponce, and accompanied Allen Rogers.

Reitz was an official accompanist for the MTNA State and Eastern Division Competition held at Ithaca College, and was selected to attend the Accompanying Workshop for Singers and Pianists held at Northwestern University with Chicago Lyric Opera Faculty and Coaches. Reitz was selected to accompany the Interpretation of Spanish Music in conjunction with University of Madrid in Grenada, Spain, and at the Mannes School of Music. Reitz was also a guest artist in Granada Spain, and accompanied the Barcelona Song Festival.

Reitz was a winner of the Artistic Ambassadors Program by the United State Information Agency in partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Among many of her accomplishments, she played at the International Clarinet Conference in Tokyo, was a guest artist at the 2014 Cornell Summer Series, was the official pianist at the International Double Reed Competition and Convention at Ithaca College, and was a guest artist at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate England in 2015.

Reitz is currently on the faculty of SUNY Binghamton, Ithaca College School of Music, and SUNY Broome. She is on the Executive Board of the New York District MTNA organization, is the treasurer of the local District VII Music Teachers Association, and is an active adjudicator for the National Piano Guild Organization.

Sunday’s program will feature music from Pärt, Ligeti, Sibelius, Prokofiev, and Shchedrin.

ADMISSION
