First Friday at BCAC – Veterans’ Photography
November 3, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
The Broome County Arts Council proudly salutes our local veterans with a showing of their photography.
Opening Reception November 3, 6-9PM
As part of a cooperative effort to involve our veterans in the arts, the Josephine Herrick Project, Department of Veteran Affairs and the Broome County Arts Council collaborated in this project. Local Photographers, JW Johnston and William Bay conducted classes with local veterans to teach some of the finer points of photography. The results of the veterans work is the subject of the show.
During the reception, we will have a video clip containing some of the arias from Tri-Cities Opera’s upcoming production of Glory Denied, the story of America’s longest held prisoner of war, who returns to a country he no longer recognizes and a family who barely recognizes him. The clip is part of a “behind the scenes” documentary with the composer, Tom Cipollo, filmed by WSKG for broadcast on November 9. Performances of Glory Denied will be November 10-19 at the Tri-Cities Opera Center’s Savoca Hibbitt Hall.
The Josephine Herrick Project is a nonprofit that enlists photographic community volunteers to educate students who have not had the opportunity to learn the communicative power of photography. Through partnerships with local organizations, JHProject’s completely free programs inspire children, teens, adults, veterans and seniors with the visual language of photography, enhancing their abilities to transform communities through artistic vision.
